Mind your manners

June 8, 2009

Another visit to the Children’s Museum of Houston today.  The Tot Spot was pretty crowded, but Patrick played happily for well over an hour, and Micah and I had fun watching him (and, I admit, playing with the blocks–I love blocks).  It’s really interesting to watch the little kids interact with each other.  They have very little sense of boundaries or personal space, so they’re always colliding with each other, but mostly they’re cool with it.  Patrick committed only one major social faux pas: he took a little girl’s admission sticker and ate it.

But he did display very fine etiquette at the tea party.

Who’s this kid?

April 11, 2009

Sometimes I’ll get a picture of Patrick that doesn’t seem to look like him at all.  Like this one:

Still cute, whoever he is!

Livin’ the dream

March 20, 2009

As reported earlier, Micah put up a backyard swing for Patrick.  Unfortunately, the only available tree branch was not at all level, so the swinging was often off-kilter.  Micah’s solution was to re-engineer the tree.

Now you can sit out in the yard, margarita in one hand, nephew in the swing, and enjoy a beautiful spring evening.

Uncle Brendan’s nephew

When Patrick goes to daycare, we pack up a few bottles for him to have while he’s there.  To make them easy to carry and to prevent spilling, we found the ideal solution:

Mr. Snuffleupagus

Poor Patrick has been sneezing and snuffling for a couple of days now, so I stayed home with him today and took him to visit the doctor.  I wasn’t concerned that it was anything serious, but since this is likely to be a common state of affairs, I wanted to get it checked out and learn if there was anything we should be doing for him.  I kind of regretted the whole going-to-the-doctor thing because it took forever and I had to deal with a minor financial screw-up involving an inexplicably refunded copayment, but it was good to have my instincts confirmed and find out that, while he might be a bit of a mess at the moment, the kid is just fine.  Unhappy, but fine.

Patrick’s first picture

January 15, 2009

When we were deciding on baby names, I made sure to google the contenders to make sure we weren’t dooming our child to a life of unfortunate mistaken identity.  The top search results are sites for Patrick Bennett the commercial photographer and Patrick Bennett the “accomplished creative director working out of New York City,” so the name seems to confer upon a man a certain artistic bent.  Our Patrick is trying to live up to his name, and today he took his first photograph, a carefully composed study of his stuffed corgi toy.

Back in business

Apologies for the extended blog silence. We’ve been busy, as usual, but the main problem has been lack of a functioning camera. Patrick’s Grandaddy gave us a new one for Christmas, but it took a while to get it, and in the meantime the old one gave up the ghost. But now I’m pleased to announce that the new camera arrived yesterday, and we’ve started practicing with it. You can see some of the results in this Flickr slideshow (which I tried and tried to embed in the post, but I don’t think it can be done).

Three Words II

December 30, 2008

Here’s another picture of three variations on the “Word Bennett” theme:

Micah’s cousin Cory also has Word as a middle name.

This is a special photo because it was taken on the very spot where Patrick’s great-grandparents, Word and Lera Bennett, were married: in front of the mantle in Avalon Hall at David Lipscomb University.
